  • Gifts

Recent heart-warming gifts to me and my family

    • two neighbors donated to my mother's march for march of dimes...the day after I handed out the requests!
    • somebody wants to give us a wagon because their boys outgrew it
    • my sister-in-law made a really tasty chocolate peanut butter dessert for my birthday
    • the van wouldn't start today and my neighbor gave me hers to use; and offered babysitting besides!
    • our 6-month-old just learned to sit this week, and also cut her first two teeth
    • I have joy

I felt cherished today because of these gifts. Thank you, Father

  • Patience

Today I took our children to Mom and Dad's to spend a few hours on the farm. A repairman was there working on something. As he watched me unload one, two, three, four children from the van, he said, "You have your hands full. You must need a lot of patience." Well said. Not that I HAVE a lot of patience, but it's a great NEED in my life! happy

I seem to have a hard time with creating places for everything and keeping things in their places, and with being organized with my time as well. The more children I have, the more glaring and irritating this defect becomes.

  • having meeing etc

    It's been a while since I wrote.
I wanted to write two weeks ago, but was having such an emotionally "down" time that I didn't think it would be worthwhile to write. Then I wanted to write during this past week, but was getting ready instead to have meeting in our landlord's barn. "Having Meeting" at our place consists of planning a meal for 150-200 people (planning doesn't mean preparing...some of it is brought in), setting up chairs to accomodate that many people, cleaning, preparing some of the food, inviting our neighbors.  "Meeting" is when we gather together for Sunday worship. Commonly called "church,"  meeting is different because we as people are the church and "meeting" is what we do. The noon meal is usually eaten together.
My menu this time was taco soup with chips, salad, rolls, fuits, and desserts. The fruits and desserts were brought in by church ladies and the rolls were bought from a local lady.
Many neighbors came and we had a good meeting. Myron's brother had the main sermon about loving God with all our heart and not living out of fear.
Two weeks ago I wanted to laugh (and yet felt surprisingly self-defensive) when a 4-year-old informed me that if my 2-year-old still wears diapers, I shouldn't have another baby. Okay.  I was surprised at my "need" to explain that we had WANTED another baby this soon. We did it on purpose! I didn't try to tell the 4-year-old that, but I was telling her in my head. I guess the solution is to potty-train the 2-year-old. However, we just completely weaned him of "milk from mommy" last week, so I think we'll put off the potty-training a bit.
Okay, babies need me. This is enough of an update from me for while. I love being a mom. Even though it does take everything I have and more.

  • A little update

Life is so full right now. It's both extremely demanding and very fulfilling. Justin is over 2 months old now. He's beginning to reward us (sparingly) with coos and smiles. He seems to have a little more digestive upset and fussiness than he did in the first six weeks of life, but is still not hard to care for. Reuben continues to be a very active little boy who loves to run, jump, and throw balls. He also promises to be quite meticulous and studious. He enjoys carrying around stacks of books. Daddy gave him a little space on the big bookshelf and several books to put in that space. Reuben also makes careful scribbles with a pen in a book Daddy gave him for that purpose. So far we've  found scribbles in only two places where they don't belong: on his knees and on Daddy's wooden desk. His vocabulary is still quite sparse, but his communication skills are pretty good anyway.

Sometimes I don't get anything done in a day besides care for the boys and make meals. Myron and I have been trying to memorize a hymn a month. It's hard for my brain right now to think that coherently. The book of James is another ongoing memory project that really shouldn't be all that hard but has me stumped. And yet I don't quite give up because I don't want my brain to get any mushier than it already is.

I feel like I don't get much adult female companionship these days, so the monthly book study with some other young married ladies in our congregation rates high on my priority list. We're going through the book A Woman After God's Own Heart by Elizabeth George. It's convicted and challenged me so far in the first two sections on seeking God and serving one's husband. Next section is on children.

We enjoyed attending the wedding of my oldest brother last month. It's fun having a sister-in-law at family gatherings.

I'm enjoying the Christmas mail coming in. We're working on a Christmas letter of our own. I'm also going to bake some goodies to give to our neighbors for Christmas. I'm looking forward to Myron's vacation time; it's 11 days long this time!

Have a blessed and merry Christmas!
